Hiawatha: a Place for Arts and Business!

ART! BINGO! KARAOKE! was a wonderful event for Artspace Hiawatha and the Community! The Jackson Place Community Council (JPCC) and the Artspace Hiawatha Liaisons worked together to organize a wonderful evening for the community and residents of Artspace Hiawatha to dedicate the new neighborhood street banners and celebrate as a community.

The festivities began with a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony to honor and welcome Hiawatha Place to the Seattle Neighborhoods. JPCC received a grant from the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods for the design, printing and hanging of the banners, and for the ribbon cutting celebration. You can see the beautiful banners designed by artist Herman Yu hanging on our street! The JPCC did a ton of work in regards to getting the grant in place and should be applauded for that.

Next the ART! BINGO! KARAOKE! event began. Visitors were treated to a beautiful salon style art gallery featuring work from Hiawatha residents and an incredible array of prizes they could win with Bingo. The fantastic food was catered by Saigon Deli and El Cabrito (BTW – El Cabrito is our sweet neighborhood “taco truck” parked in the Shell Station lot).

There were about 10 BINGO winners with 2 MEGA prizes given! MEGA PRIZES included artwork, passes to Seattle Bouldering Project, Classes with Kibibi Monie, a personal reading with Jodee Thelen, gift certificates to Cafe Weekend, tickets to see Lily Verlaine at the Triple Door and much more! Billy Davis & Lizeta Walker won the Mega Prizes. All other BINGO winners got to pick a wonderful art prize.
